Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces. Instead of straightening your teeth with highly visible wires and brackets, Invisalign corrects your smile using a series of clear plastic trays you can pop in and out of your mouth at your convenience.

How does Invisalign work?

During your first Invisalign appointment at Warrington Dental, the team takes a digital 3D scan of your teeth. That scan is used to create your sets of clear aligners, which are each trimmed to your exact gum line so they fit as comfortably as possible.

Your first set of aligners shifts your teeth gradually. You wear it for one to two weeks before switching to the next aligner in your set, which shifts your teeth a little bit further toward their ideal position. By the time you finish wearing your last aligner, your teeth are perfectly aligned and you’re left with a beautiful, even smile.

While you will need to periodically check in with Warrington Dental throughout the course of wearing Invisalign (usually every six to eight weeks), these appointments are fewer and further between than the appointments that would be required with traditional braces. Instead of requiring the manual adjustment of brackets along a wire to move your teeth, Invisalign uses each clear aligner to continue gradually shifting your teeth.

On top of saving you time, Invisalign has another benefit. It’s more comfortable than traditional braces because there aren’t any metal wires or brackets that can cut up your mouth.

Can I still eat, drink, play sports, and do other things I enjoy with Invisalign?

Invisalign is designed to integrate seamlessly with your life. You only need to wear your aligners for about 20 to 22 hours a day. That way, you have plenty of time to take them out to enjoy a meal with friends, play a game of pickup soccer (so you can put in a mouthguard), or participate in any other activity you enjoy.

What’s more, keeping your teeth and your aligners clean is easy. Because you can take your aligners out to brush and floss, you don’t have to worry about trying to navigate floss under a wire or around brackets like you would with metal braces. And cleaning the aligners themselves is simple: just brush them with your toothbrush and give them a rinse.
